ToggleAbout Leh Palace
Leh Palace has nine floors, the upper floor used to house the royal family, while the lower floor has shops and houses. Most of the buildings of the Leh Palace have been destroyed although the Museum has beautiful ornaments, ornaments, crowns and ceremonial costumes as well as Tibetan paintings or Thangkas, which date back to 450 years. Complex shapes and bright colors are obtained from powders and crushed stones and precious stones. The structures surrounding the main building include the famous Namgyal Stupa and the Chandazik Gompa with its beautiful wall paintings in the Chamba Lhakhang dating back to 1430. Some remains of wall paintings from ancient times are still here. Since 2003, the Tibet Heritage Fund has carried out pilot projects in partnership with local governments as part of an overall restoration plan. In 2010, despite many achievements, a flood devastated the area and the landscape of Leh was badly damaged. Many people gathered around the local community to help with the recovery efforts after the storm.
Another thing that happens in the palace for those who are interested in history is the museum that has a large collection of paintings that reflect the cultural history of the region. 450-year-old paintings, crowns and jewels are displayed here. Although photography is not allowed inside the palace, taking in the remains of the past with your eyes is also fun.
